Oswald "Osi" Inglin (born June 28, 1953 in Basel ) is a Swiss historian , English scholar and politician ( CVP ).

Life

Oswald Inglin studied history, English and German at the University of Basel , in the USA and Ireland and graduated in 1980 with a degree in history and English. In 1981 he obtained the senior teaching diploma at what was then the cantonal teachers' seminar. In 1989 he received his doctorate in Modern General History with a thesis on the economic war between Great Britain and Switzerland in World War II under Georg Kreis . From 1980 until his retirement in 2016 he was a teacher of English and history in English ( immersion classes ), first at the Holbein-Gymnasium, then, after its merger with the Gymnasium am Kohlenberg in 1997, at the Gymnasium Leonhard . From 1988 he was also vice principal, first of the Holbein-Gymnasium, then of the Gymnasium Leonhard. He is married and has three children.

In addition to his teaching activities, he conducted advanced training events in his specialist areas of portfolio work and immersive teaching at various colleges and also within the framework of the Swiss Center for Continuing Education (WBZ, today the Swiss Center for Middle Schools ZEM). In both fields he has published repeatedly in monographs and journals and published a guide for immersive history teaching in English. He is a member of the International Portfolio Network (INP).

As a hobby, he deals with the history of the quarters in eastern Basel, to which he has a biographical reference, and offers guided tours there. He has also been conducting tours of Basel City Hall for more than ten years . He also offers tours of the Badischer Bahnhof , the history of which he studied in depth while working as an intelligence officer in the Basel city command.

Since 2005 he has been a member of the CVP in the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and has chaired the Grand Council's Education and Culture Commission (BKK) since 2013.
