The Alte Aproche colliery was a hard coal mine in Altendorf (Ruhr) (now a part of Essen ). The name is derived from the French approche for trench .

history

The colliery was first mentioned in 1720. In 1734 a tunnel was built ; previously open-cast mining was probably operated. In 1750, a mine called Neue Aproche was established in the neighborhood , and so the name Alte Aproche became established for the older mine . Finally, in 1780, a towing route to the Ruhr was created to optimize coal transport.

From 1840 the Aproche was solved by the Himmelsfürster Erbstollen and was able to reduce stocks up to 8 meters lower. The following year, a mine fire temporarily put the mine out of operation. Since the coal reserves located below the Erbstollen could not be mined due to the water inflow, several mine pits in the Altendorf district went into consolidation and thus established the Altendorf Tiefbau colliery .
