The Hope Colliery in Essen-Heidhausen is a former hard coal mine . The colliery was also known under the names Zeche Feste Hoffnung and Zeche Veste Hoffnung . The colliery was only in operation as a tunnel mine for a few years.

Mining history

In 1805 the concession for a mine field was granted. The concession was for Berechtsame Veste hope awarded . In 1820 prospecting was carried out near the old gallery . The mine field was in the Steinbrink, today the Wintgenhof street runs there. The dismantling began in October of the following year . In 1826 the mine field was further aligned until June . From July of the same year, the mine was alternately placed in time limits and then put back into operation. The only known workforce and funding figures come from 1830, in that year 16,012 bushels of hard coal were mined with five miners . In 1832 the Hope Colliery was closed. In 1900 the pit field of the Pauline colliery was closed.
