The Nachtigall colliery in Essen-Kupferdreh is a former hard coal mine . The mine was located in the area of the Deilbachtal and has a history of over 90 years. The Nachtigall colliery was one of the founding members of the Association for Mining Interests .

Mining history

Even before it was commissioned in 1784, coal was mined in five seams in the Deibach Valley area . A length field was awarded on November 5, 1831 . In 1854 a union was formed. At this point in time, the rights included the two length fields Nachtigall and Nachtigall I. In the fourth quarter of 1857 the mine was put into operation. This year 52 ½ tons of Prussian hard coal were mined. In 1858 the railway connection to the Prinz Wilhelm Railway was completed. This year, 35 miners extracted 18,946 bushels of hard coal. The mine was in operation from 1861 to 1865, but only in 1861 there was evidence of mining. In 1866 the mine was closed. In 1869 it was put back into service. This year, three miners extracted 849 tons of hard coal. Around 1875, the Nachtigall colliery was taken over by the Victoria colliery .
