The Prince of Prussia colliery was a hard coal mine in Bochum-Kornharpen . The mine received its mining rights in 1854. The shaft Oeynhausen was 1856 sunk . In 1861 the production started. In 1872 a carbon copy was made with the Caroline mine . On July 25, 1895 there was a firedamp explosion ; It killed 37  miners and injured 10  miners (a memorial in the Blumenstrasse cemetery commemorates the accident ). In 1905 the mine was merged with the Caroline mine . In 1921 the colliery became the Caroline colliery.

Colony Prince of Prussia

From 1868, Harpener Bergbau AG had a colliery colony built in the Castroper Strasse area by the Magdeburger Bau- und Credit-Bank . Location This included, in particular, the layout and development of the I and II parallel streets as well as on Wichernstraße and Auf der Bochumer Landwehr .

Today there are no more remains, only the street name Auf der Prinz still reminds of the location. At the former location of the Oeynhausen mine of the Prince of Prussia colliery, there are two rail lines of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association . The Kornharpen central landfill is adjacent to the site .
