The Harpen Mining AG - today Harpen AG - was a German energy company based in Dortmund . Today the company is active in the real estate business.

The mining company Harpener Bergbau AG was founded in Dortmund in 1856 . The name refers to the village of Harpen , today a district of Bochum , which was in the middle of the company's fields . In 1870 the company went public . At that time, the company operated the Heinrich Gustav colliery and the Prince of Prussia colliery and had acquired the Caroline mine , which was not yet in operation .

The first chairman of the board of directors was Friedrich Wilhelm Müser . He was followed by his son Robert Müser and Eugen Kleine .

In the course of the consolidation of German coal production, Harpen brought his mining activities into Ruhrkohle AG in 1969 and concentrated on the management of real estate , logistics and the energy industry . In 1992, the Vereinigte Elektrizitätswerke Westfalen and the Westdeutsche Landesbank under Friedel Neuber took over the company. The merger of VEW and RWE resulted in the company becoming RWE Power , which initially ran the company as a competence center for renewable energy . The original renewable energy generation division has merged into the RWE power plant division, while the district heating division has been added to RWE Energy. Since then, the company has been active exclusively in the real estate sector.

Harpen is also known on the capital market for its endless bond , which, due to its model character, is often used as an example in financing courses.

The company has not been listed on the stock exchange since 2005 and was sold to financial investors in 2006 .

Harpen's core business areas today are asset management and development in the commercial segment, especially focused on retail, office and logistics properties. In addition to the commercial real estate offer, Harpen still has a large amount of land that has been successfully reactivated, developed and built on for decades in commercial and residential construction.

The managing director is Franz-Josef Peveling .
