The bill Ruhr and Rhine was a coal - mine in Duisburg .

history

In 1857 a French consortium began to sink a shaft near the north port. Free port today . The pit area was about 150 m northwest directly next to the road to Ruhrort (Duisburg).

In 1861 a small Malakow tower was built. Following was promotion added. The colliery did not develop economically as expected because of the heavily water-bearing overburden. In addition to the difficult economic times, this led to the operating company being insolvent several times.

In 1870 the operating company was liquidated. The mine was also owned by a French successor company. This process was repeated in a similar way in 1874. After the third bankruptcy in 1885, the Meidericher Steinkohlenbergwerks-AG was founded, which was majority-owned by Germany.

They renamed the shaft Ruhr & Rhein and continued to operate it. Since the planned mining operations under the Rhine ports would have led to major investment projects, the company decided to sell the shaft to the neighboring Westende mine . The shaft was taken over by Zeche Westende in 1890 and continued as shaft 3.
