The Siegfried colliery was a hard coal mine in the Witten district of Annen and was one of the last small mines in the Ruhr area .

Mining history

The colliery was founded on June 1, 1957 in order to mine near-surface residual coal reserves in the lean coal seams in the mine field of the United Siegfried colliery . In its first year, a 125 m long was adit into the mountain ahead . The tunnel mouth hole was not far from Herdecker Str. At today's Annen outdoor pool .

The Siegfried small mine reached its highest annual production in 1961 with 26 employees and 4,836 tons .

The mine was closed on November 30, 1966.
