The United Hermann colliery in Essen-Rüttenscheid is a former hard coal mine . The colliery was in operation - with several interruptions - for over 30 years.

Mining history

On November 25, 1835, a square was awarded . In 1837 the mine field was solved by the Bölling Erbstollen . In January of the following year, the mine was put into operation. From August 1843 the mine was closed in time limits . After that, the mine was presumably in operation again for some time, because in 1847 it was again received within time limits. In 1853 the mine was back in operation and there is evidence that mining was carried out. The mine was also in operation from 1855 to 1867. In 1869 the United Hermann colliery was again put into operation, but it was put back into operation the following year. From 1872 the United Hermann colliery was out of operation again. In April 1900, a contract was signed with the Langenbrahm and Ludwig mines, which guaranteed the mines to dismantle the mine field of the United Hermann colliery. After that there is no further information about the United Hermann colliery.

Promotion and workforce

The first known production and workforce figures come from 1838, when eleven miners were employed in the mine, who produced 10,230 Prussian tons of hard coal . In 1840 the production rose to 36,644½ tons of hard coal. In 1842 the production sank to 24,711 Prussian tons of hard coal. In the following year, 25,796 bushels of hard coal were mined. In 1858, 20 miners were employed at the mine. In 1861, twelve miners extracted 10,010 Prussian tons of hard coal. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine are from 1871. In that year, around 2300 tons of hard coal were extracted with eight miners.
