Ten considerations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ten considerations ( anussati , Thai : อนุ ส สติ 10 ; literally Eingedenksein , mindfulness , observation ) are Buddhist meditation subjects or Kontemplationsthemen .

In the texts of the Palikanon (e.g. in A.VI.10, A.VI.25; D.33) six considerations (also visualizations ) are often mentioned :

1. Buddhānussati (Thai: พุ ท ธา นุ ส สติ ), realization of the awakened, the Buddha
2. Dhammānussati ( ธั ม มา นุ ส สติ ), realization of his teaching, the Dharma
3. Saṅghānussati ( สังฆ นุ ส สติ ), visualization of his successors, the Sangha
  • Considerations on Virtue:
4. Sīlānussati ( สี ลา นุ ส สติ ), realization of (one's own) morality, virtue (sīla)
5. Cāgānussati ( จา คา นุ ส สติ ), awareness of generosity, of letting go (Dāna)
6. Devatānussati ( เทว ตา นุ ส สติ ), visualizing the heavenly beings ( Deva )

In two other places another four considerations are mentioned (Anāpatti-Vagga of the Anguttara-Nikaya AI26 and AI35). They are:

7. Maraṇassati ( มร ณา นุ ส สติ ), contemplation on death
8. Kāyagatā-sati ( อุป ส มา นุ ส สติ ), contemplation of the 32 unclean parts of the body
9. Upasamānussati ( กาย ค ตา นุ ส สติ ), contemplation on peace , on the virtues of nibbāna
10. Ānāpānasati ( อา นา ปา นา นุ ส สติ ), mindfulness when breathing in and out

The ten reflections are part of the forty meditation objects of Kammaṭṭhāna listed in the third chapter of the post-canonical work Visuddhimagga by the famous Buddhist commentator Buddhaghosa . The practitioner should develop his concentration and his "awareness". Meditation teachers can give individual or all of the forty objects to the practitioner. Special attention has z. B. found the work Ānāpānasati of the Buddhadasa Bhikkhu , according to which is still taught in the monastery Suan Mokkh in southern Thailand .
