The former Zehnthof Volkach

The building of the former Zehnthof in Volkach is directly opposite the parish church of St. Bartholomäus . It is one of the most striking buildings on the main street of the small town in Lower Franconia .

history

The Würzburg prince-bishops stayed here in the 16th century . Until 1622, the Kapitelshof and the tithe winery were located in the building. From 1545 it was converted into an office building. A window frame in the rear building testifies to this redesign. The house was later used as a royal Bavarian rent office . In 1929 the Volkachs police station was established there . A major renovation in 1974 turned the representative house into a residential and commercial building.

The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation runs the building under the number D-6-75-174-41. The former Zehnthof is part of the Volkach Old Town ensemble. Underground archaeological findings in the area of the old town are listed as ground monuments.

architecture

The building is a two-story gable roof house . It is gable and has volute gables . A gate passage is attached to the side of the Renaissance building.
