Time in Colombia
In Colombia is Colombia Time (COT) followed. It is in the UTC − 5 zone time and is 5 hours behind the coordinated universal time (UTC). It has been the country's legal time since 1914 . The default abbreviation for the time zone is COT.
Colombia shares the same time zone with Panama , Jamaica , Haiti , Cuba , Ecuador and Peru .
Colombia does not observe daylight saving time. The only exception was eleven months between May 1992 and April 1993. This happened under the command of César Gaviria , who created the “Hora Gaviria” as one of the measures to deal with droughts due to the El Niño phenomenon and the low level of hydropower storage facilities .
During the summer in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Colombia is 7 hours behind, in winter it is 6 hours.
