Reporting on proton pump inhibitors

In August 2006, Thieme-Verlag prevented an article on the use of proton pump inhibitors in which u. a. the statement was made that "the cheapest proton pump inhibitor, omeprazole , is just as good as the most expensive, pantoprazole ". The background is said to have been that the pharmaceutical company Takeda put pressure on the publisher. Although this did not affect the advertisement-free ZFA, the group withdrew three advertisements worth 9,600 euros in other magazines of the publisher. At that time, Takeda advertised 37 ads worth 82,000 euros. The publisher reacted immediately and had the August issue of the journal for general medicine crushed, the article on proton pump inhibitors did not appear. The August edition was published late, but the table of contents was not revised. The facts were uncovered by the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the article later appeared in the Arznei-Telegram .
