Michael M. Cooking (born October 2, 1950 in Munich ) is a German doctor and scientist. He is a specialist in internal medicine and general medicine .

Life

Michael Cooking passed his Abitur examination at the Albert Einstein Gymnasium in Munich in 1969 and began studying medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the Free University of Berlin . In 1976 he received his license to practice medicine .

After completing his doctorate, he worked at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg and was a postdoctoral fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at Stanford University . After studying epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley (Master of Public Health) and further training, first as a specialist in internal medicine and then as a specialist in general medicine , Cooking completed his habilitation in 1988 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

From 1989 to 2011, Koch was a university professor for general medicine and director of the department of the same name at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1994 he received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of General Practitioners (London). In 1999/2000, Koch spent a sabbatical as a visiting professor at the Department of Primary Health Care (Institute of Health Sciences) at the University of Oxford . At the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg he is a lecturer in the field of general medicine for scientific competence.

From 2004 to 2010, cook was President (and has been Honorary President since 2014) of the German Society for General Medicine and Family Medicine . Since 2004 he has been writing a regular newsletter for members of the specialist society in which he comments on international studies relevant to general practitioners ( MMK benefits ).

He has been a full member of the Drugs Commission of the German Medical Association since 2006 , advisor to the publisher of the annual drug prescription report since 1998 and works in the “Drugs” and “Vaccinations” expert groups of Stiftung Warentest . He is also the managing editor of the journal for general medicine , co-editor of arznei-telegram and a member of the training committee of the German Association of General Practitioners (Baden-Württemberg).

Institute for general medicine and statistics at the Universities of Göttingen, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg and Freiburg.
  • 2017 Masaaki Ohkoshi Award, International Society of Chemotherapy (together with the co-authors of the publication Ibuprofen versus fosfomycin for uncomplicated urinary tract infection in women: randomized controlled trial ).
