Ethology is a zoological journal for the fields of animal psychology / behavioral biology / ethology .

history

The first edition of the specialist publication appeared in German on February 3, 1937, particularly prompted by the German Society for Animal Psychology , founded a year earlier , under the title “Journal for Animal Psychology”. In 1985 the journal was renamed "Ethology" with the subtitle International Journal of Behavioral Biology . The counting of the volume numbers continued even after the name change, so that the 125th volume was published in 2019. Even before it was renamed, the Zeitschrift für Tierpsychologie had printed texts in English.

Authors

In the early days, the magazine's authors were u. a. Karl von Frisch , Oskar Heinroth , Konrad Lorenz and Nikolaas Tinbergen , but also authors who presented the results of their dissertation or habilitation thesis .
