The Zeitschrift für Celtische Philologie (ZCP) is a linguistic German publication series . It is the oldest magazine that is still out and devoted exclusively to the subject of Celtology .

history

The magazine was founded in 1896 by Kuno Meyer and Ludwig Christian Stern . Other editors were u. a. Julius Pokorny and Rudolf Thurneysen . 60 volumes had been published by 2013. Deviating from the normal title, volumes 22 (1941) and 23 (1942/43) have the title: Journal for Celtic Philology and Folk Research . After that there was an interruption of the editorial work from 1944 to 1952 due to the war. A complete table of contents of all editions can be viewed. The magazine is aimed primarily at scholars whose research area relates to Celtic languages ​​or Celtic culture in some way, and to laypeople interested in Celtology. The journal for Celtic philology is obtained from libraries and institutes and is usually incorporated into the library stock there.

The magazine covers the Celtic languages and the history and politics of their speakers. In the founding years, the focus was on the areas of Celtic philology, Old Irish poetry, comparative linguistics and etymology with reference to Celtic and mainland Celtic linguistic monuments. Later also current issues - such as the language policy of the New Celtic languages ​​- were added.

These topics are covered in articles, book and magazine reviews, and reading lists. When a deserving Celtologist dies, a necrology appears . The authors are scientists whose research area relates to the Celtic languages ​​or Celtic culture in some way.
