Contemporary witness portal (House of History)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The contemporary witness portal of the Foundation House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany is an online video platform that contains a collection of contemporary witness interviews on topics of contemporary German history .

The contemporary witness portal was initiated by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters and presented to the public in July 2017. In addition to LeMO , it is the second major online offer from the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim is to secure reports from contemporary witnesses, to make them accessible to a broader public and to preserve memories for future generations.

The website includes a video collection of around 1,000 interviews with contemporary witnesses , which are freely accessible in around 8,000 individual video clips. The stories range in time from experiences during the First and Second World Wars , the German-German division and reunification to the recent past.

The current content is to be expanded to include additional items. In addition to interviews conducted by the former association “ Our History. Das Gedächtnis der Nation eV ”, interviews from the holdings of the institutions funded by the Minister of State for Culture and Media as well as interviews with contemporary witnesses conducted by the Foundation House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany itself are made available. The House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany acts as a coordinating body through which these holdings are systematically recorded, made accessible and made visible. There is a cooperation with the Federal Archives for long-term archiving .
