Central Association for Surface Technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik eV (ZVO) represents the interests of coaters from industry and trade, raw materials and process suppliers, system manufacturers, component manufacturers and service providers of German electroplating and surface technology . Its member companies are active in the field of surface finishing with metals or metal compounds from liquid process media.

The trade association based in Hilden is the central point of contact for economic, environmental, energy and educational policy as well as technical and scientific questions related to electroplating and surface technology.

Branch

Electroplating and surface technology is used in all areas of industry - to protect against corrosion and wear, to improve the look and feel as well as for defined surface functions and properties. In Germany, the Federal Statistical Office recorded a total of 973 companies with more than 20 employees in the sector “25.61 Surface finishing and heat treatment”. The almost 62,000 people employed in the industry generated sales of around EUR 8.6 billion in 2018. The electroplating companies as a non-licensing trade, as well as the many small and very small businesses in the medium-sized industry, are not yet included in these statistics.

organization

The overall organization of the ZVO includes around 250 direct company members and three corporate members: the Federal Association of Galvanizers, Engravers and Metal Formers (BIV), the Association of Galvanized Plastics eV (FGK) and the technically and scientifically oriented German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology (DGO) . In total, the ZVO represents more than 600 member companies.

The focus of the ZVO's activities is on the areas of automotive, environmental and chemical policy, training and further education and communication. In the departments, the knowledge of the industry is collected, processed and made available to the various target groups. Their work is based on thematically and regionally structured specialist committees, working groups, district groups, guilds, seminars and specialist conferences of the various member organizations.

As the representative of German electroplating and surface technology, the ZVO is a member of the European surface association Committee for Surface Treatment (CETS).

history

The ZVO started its work on January 1st, 2000. Before that, four organizations had represented the interests of electroplating for many decades, before in the 1980s with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Galvanotechnik (AGG), later Arbeitsgemeinschaft Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik (AGO), an initial pooling of interests, initially in the area of public relations, later also in the area Environment. With the increasing demands on the industry, this was further concentrated, which resulted in the foundation of the ZVO in 2000, initially as a pure umbrella organization with exclusive association memberships. Since the beginning of 2011, the ZVO has positioned itself as a trade association with direct corporate and corporate members.
