The Center for Test Development and Diagnostics ( ZTD ) has existed since 1994 in the Department of Psychology at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) . It was founded on the initiative of the Swiss University Conference, the predecessor organization of the Swiss University Conference, as an institution associated with the university.

Its most important task is the annual provision, application and evaluation of the aptitude test for medical studies (EMS) in Switzerland. From 2006 to 2012, the EMS was also carried out in Austria (Vienna and Innsbruck) on the same day as in Switzerland. In 2012 there was a shortened EMS for dentistry in Austria, which is used together with a manipulative test.

Since May 2018, the ZTD has also been an official institute of the University of Friborg (Switzerland) in the Department of Psychology, maintaining the main task of the "aptitude test" under the governance of swissuniversities . The adjustment was necessary to meet today's administrative requirements for the continuation of the project and a new contractual basis from 2019.

An online self-assessment has been offered as an aid for study applications since 2010 in connection with a study advisory page and continues to be used in the context of the EMS in order to also take the " soft skills " into account when making a decision to study medicine.

Other projects are being processed on a third-party basis , such as B. the development and publication of computer-based psychodiagnostic procedures in the Hogrefe test system (until the end of 2012), traffic psychological diagnostics, educational evaluations and others.

A new approach to quality management in psychotherapy was developed in the project “Quality Management Psychotherapy” in collaboration with Meinrad Perrez (Chair of Clinical Psychology, University of Friborg, Switzerland).

In addition, the ZTD is involved in the field of quality assurance in psychological diagnostics by making the existing guidelines and standards better known, especially in Switzerland, and by gradually developing a demand for quality on the so-called psycho market .
