The Center and Swiss School for the Hard of Hearing Landenhof in Unterentfelden , Canton Aargau , offers not only lessons from kindergarten through the 10th school year but also individual speech therapy programs. In the Landenhof, hearing aids are adjusted, those affected are advised, pupils integrated into the public school are supported, and pupils at secondary schools are supported and advised. We work together with hospitals to adapt cochlear implants or we work out concepts with partner schools (e.g. vocational school for the hearing impaired).
The school is attended by around 120 hard of hearing and some deaf students from German-speaking Switzerland (as of 2018). Some of them live during the week in the attached boarding school. The school employs around 45 teachers. Around 40 social pedagogues work in the boarding school. There is also a Externat with about 45 young people. The lessons are held in spoken language and the curriculum is based on that of the Canton of Aargau. The largest classes consist of a maximum of 10 young people.
The Landenhof goes back to the Aarau Deaf and Dumb Foundation , which was founded in 1836 by a group around Heinrich Zschokke . The foundation initially set up a school for the hearing impaired in Aarau . In 1876 she acquired the Landenhof , a farm, and opened the school there in 1877, which has been continuously expanded since then.
