Zerra I (later Zerra One ) was an Irish new wave band. The group was active from 1982 to about 1987, during which time they released three studio albums on Mercury Records . The music of Zerra I was compared with U2 , but the musicians did not achieve their commercial breakthrough despite some respectable successes.

Band history

Zerra I was founded in 1982 by Paul Bell (vocals, keyboard) and Andreas Grimminger (electric guitar). A little later the first line-up with bassist Adrian Wyatt and drummer Korda Marshall was completed and the demo Let's Go Home was recorded. After that, Marshall was replaced by Mike Mesbur. This was followed by a number of single releases, of which 1983 The Banner of Love (How I Run to You) was placed at number 33 on the UK Independent Charts . The debut album was released on Mercury Records in 1984, followed by Mountains and Waters in the same year and The Domino Effect in 1986.

Despite a respectable success with the single Rescue Me , which was placed at number 82 on the British music charts in early 1986 , Zerra I failed to gain a foothold commercially in Great Britain . Even MTV and the US showed no interest. Zerra I dissolved around 1987.
