style

Gavin Harrison originally comes from the jazz field, as he came to play the drums through his father, who is himself a professional jazz musician. He started practicing hi-hats when he was 6 and got his first own drum kit when he was 11. His very clean drumming is often described with virtuosity, progressiveness and softness.

Gavin Harrison is known among drummers as the “psychologist of rhythm”, as he uses techniques such as rhythmic shifts, metric modulations , rhythmic overlays, syncopation , polyrhythmics and many other, not exactly commonplace techniques, the great virtuosity, as well as a certain independence of thinking and require playing.

Harrison himself noted down techniques, concepts and practices since his youth and incorporated these decades-old notes into his textbooks. Harrison became known through rhythmic illusions, which were given a face through his books and educational films.

Awards

In July 2007, Gavin Harrison was voted "best progressive drummer of the year" by readers of Modern Drummer magazine . In the years 2008 to 2010 he repeated this success, four years in a row.
