The incident -

The Incident is the tenth and final studio album by Porcupine Tree . It was released in 2009 by Roadrunner Records and is assigned to the genre Progressive Rock . The album was nominated at the Grammy Awards 2011 in the category "Best Surround Sound Album", but could not prevail against the winner " Britten's Orchestra ".

Music genre

In The Incident , Porcupine Tree evolves from the “purely metallic” to “a more airy atmosphere” in the songs. However, it covers a broad spectrum and ranges between the border to noise on the one hand and “soft moments” on the other. The album is seen as a continuation and further development of the eighth studio album Deadwing .

History of origin

"I think 'The Incident' is one of the three best things I've ever created."

- Steven Wilson

The idea for the title of the album came from Steven Wilson when he saw a traffic accident that was cordoned off with a tape with the inscription "Police - Incident" ( English for "Police - Accident / Incident"). The insight that an accident can mean a deep turning point for those affected prompted Wilson to write texts about such events from his observation or personal past. Other serious events such as sexual abuse, birth and death are also reflected on.

After the publication of The Incident , an extensive world tour followed from September 2009 to October 2010, which ended with a sold out concert at London's Royal Albert Hall .

Track list

“[...] the album [was] recorded in several phases. The first went to 'The Blind House', the second to 'Drawing the Line', the next to 'Time Flies', then came the rest. But the songs were written exactly in the order in which they appear on the album . "
