In Absentia is a melodic album that has fewer Britpop influences than its predecessor Lightbulb Sun , but elements of Progressive Metal . In the quieter passages there are still echoes of ambient or the art rock Pink Floyds .
reception
The album was positively received by the press. Uwe Schleifenbaum praises the Musikexpress : “Porcupine Tree are highly melodic without being curious, and artful without appearing to be self-indulgent. In addition, Wilson and his colleagues have mastered the fine art of dynamics and resolution: Odd beats and unconventional melodies are followed by all the more conciliatory harmonies, and opposites are played quite unpretentiously and tension is generated. "Michael Rensen from Rock Hard sums up:" This [...] marvel MUST have everyone who is even partially into bands like Pink Floyd, Radiohead , Manic Street Preachers , Marillion , Dave Matthews Band or Rush ! ”The music magazine eclipsed chose In Absentia on the 14th place of its list of 150 most important prog albums.
