Aviv Geffen ( Hebrew אביב גפן; * May 10, 1973 in Ramat Gan ) is an Israeli pop musician.

Life

Geffen is the son of the Israeli poet Jonathan Geffen and on his mother's side a great-nephew of the former Israeli general and minister Moshe Dajan . He is committed to real peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict . Geffen is often referred to as a conscientious objector, but was actually exempted from military service for medical reasons. He is an avowed atheist .

For many young people in Israel, Geffen has been an idol since the early 1990s. In his lyrics, Geffen also addresses problems of violence, alcohol and other drugs . On November 4, 1995, he appeared in front of thousands of people at the peace rally in Tel Aviv at which Yitzchak Rabin was murdered after his peace speech. Geffen was only four meters away from the action at the time. Since then, he has described the moment of the attack as the "most dramatic moment of his life," which made him a peace activist. Geffen processed experiences like this in several songs, e. B. Liwkot lecha ( To cry for you ) . This song is now a synonym for this evening.

After a few solo records that were almost exclusively successful in Israel but made him a star there, he ventured into the international music market for the first time in 2004 together with Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree as a member of the band Blackfield . In addition, Aviv Geffen occasionally works with the Israeli band project Metropolin . On August 28, 2009, the first English-language solo album Geffens, produced by Trevor Horn, was released in Germany. In January 2009 he already presented some songs from this album on a tour of Germany, including a. Black and White , Silence , It's Alright and October Song . In November 2009 Geffen toured again through major German cities, as well as Utrecht and Vienna. In 2010 he can be seen as a special guest with Nena on German stages.
