Blackfield is a multinational rock band that was formed in 2001 in cooperation with Porcupine Tree singer and frontman Steven Wilson and Israeli pop musician Aviv Geffen .

history

The first album of the Blackfield project , which was highly acclaimed by both critics and audiences , consisting of Israeli Aviv Geffen and Englishman Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), was released in 2004. Gavin Harrison , the drummer of Porcupine Tree, was one of the guest musicians. In contrast to Porcupine Tree , Blackfield focuses on short, rather melancholy songs; the sound is characterized by strings, acoustic guitars and warm harmony vocals, with more rocking songs in the repertoire from time to time. The duo made their first tour in late 2004 and early 2005 through Europe and the USA. They had a three-piece band with them to support them, and in the USA they were also accompanied by dream theater keyboarder Jordan Rudess . In February 2007, the simply titled Blackfield II second work was published. In addition, a concert in New York in March 2007 was recorded for future DVD release.

On the third album Welcome to my DNA , released on March 28, 2011, Geffen was solely responsible for the song material, with the exception of the title "Waving". On the fourth album IV , released on August 30, 2013 , Wilson, who was busy this year due to his solo activities, was no longer performed as an official band member, so that Aviv Geffen was solely responsible for the project. Wilson was, however, also involved as a guest singer, guitarist and mixer on this album. Several guest singers, including Vincent Cavanagh from Anathema, are featured on the album. The song "Pills" was released as a single in advance, and a music video for "Jupiter" was released in mid-August 2013. At the beginning of February 2014 Blackfield went on a European tour.

On February 10, 2017, another studio album, Blackfield V, was released, which Geffen and Wilson recorded again in equal collaboration. Three of the titles included were recorded and produced in cooperation with Alan Parsons . String arrangements on the album were recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra .

style

The music is based on the quieter Porcupine Tree pieces and lies between rock and pop with an often melancholic mood. The pieces are penned by both Geffen and Wilson. Some tracks are new recordings of older Geffen songs, the lyrics of which have been translated from Hebrew into English, e.g. B. Cloudy Now .
