style

King Crimson combine features of all creative periods of the band as well as income from the work in the projects on the album. There are also influences from blues , minimal music and Eastern European classical music . the construction of light has a complicated structure, with changing rhythms and many entangled or opposing guitars. In addition to the references to other albums, there are some cross-references and references within the construction of light . The album sounds darker and heavier than previous works by the band.

reception

The reactions to the album were mostly positive. Jason Nickey from Allmusic finds it too backward-looking and Jörg Schumann from the Babyblauen Seiten criticizes it as monotonous, "uninspired and unkindly drifted down". For Udo Gerhards, on the other hand, “this album is not a cashier-nostalgia trip, because the textures are too sharp for that, the polyrhythmics too confusing and uncompromising and the mood too gloomy. There is an incredible amount going on; and that's why this album is still fun, especially when you listen carefully ”. Nik Brükner sums up: “This album contains some of the hardest music to play that I have ever heard. [...] I am rarely effusive, but here is my opinion [...] an absolute masterpiece of the genre before. "The music magazine eclipsed took the construkction of light in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
