The Pineapple Thief is a British alternative - and progressive rock - band .
history
The British (born in Germany) musician Bruce Soord has been active in various bands since the 1980s. As a member of Vulgar Unicorn , he founded his own band in 1999 (as a supposed side project) in Yeovil , Somerset , in order to be able to realize his ideas: Pineapple Thief . After the first album Abducting The Unicorn , which was recorded almost single- handedly and released by Cyclops Records, work on the successor was delayed by two years because various record companies showed interest in the project. Bruce Soord did not like the album 12 Stories Down, which was recorded in 2004, after its completion, and he not only changed it considerably in the mixing, but also left out tracks and re-recorded a few passages. After the album was released under the title 10 Stories Down in 2005, keyboardist Matt O'Leary left the band and was replaced by Steve Kitch. Since then the band has been called The Pineapple Thief . Wayne Higgins left the band in March 2008. During the slowly growing success, the band switched to the record company Kscope and are now label colleagues of Gazpacho , Anathema and Steven Wilson . 2009 came The Pineapple Thief opened for Riverside on their UK tour.
The legendary designer Storm Thorgerson was won over for the graphic design of their eighth studio album, published in 2010 .
In 2011, Kscope began to re-release the band's early recordings, which were long out of print, in remastered and partly remixed versions. It started with 10 Stories Down , which appeared together with the bonus EP 8 Days Later . The new version of the album Variations on a Dream was accompanied by the complete EP 8 Days in a remastered version. In 2017 the new edition of Abducting the Unicorn was released under the name Abducted at Birth (the original name of the recording).
In 2013 Keith Harrison was replaced on drums by Dan Osborne, who Bruce Soord describes as a great asset. He is also the producer of the Magnolia album . For Your Wilderness , released in 2016 , the band was able to win over the British drummer Gavin Harrison .
