Riverside (. English for riverbank ) is a progressive rock - / progressive metal - band from Warsaw , Poland .

Band history

The band was founded in 2001 as a side project. After two concerts in Warsaw in October 2002, the band completed a demo in March 2003, 300 copies of which were sent to various radio stations and record labels inside and outside Poland and earned them a record deal with Sony Music Poland .

While the debut album was still being finished, the band separated from Jacek Melnicki (Ex- Thunderbolt ), who was replaced by Michał Łapaj. In December 2003 it was published under the title Out of Myself . Almost a year after its release in Poland, the record label Laser's Edge released the album worldwide on September 21, 2004 with a new cover designed by Travis Smith .

The second release was the EP Voices in My Head, planned as a fan club CD . The interest was so great that the EP officially hit stores.

After a self-organized tour, the band learned that the progressive label InsideOut Music was interested in releasing a second album. They got in touch with the label and signed a contract. In 2005 the second album Second Life Syndrome was released . The band announced that it is to be understood as the second part of a trilogy called Reality Dream . The band had the idea for a trilogy while they were recording their debut album.

In September 2007 the album Rapid Eye Movement was released as the third and final part of the Reality Dream trilogy.

In November and December 2008 there was a final Reality Dream Tour with concerts in Poland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. As part of the concerts, a double audio CD of the concert limited to 1000 copies was sold in the Toya Studios , as was a vinyl edition limited to 500 copies.

The fourth studio album is entitled Anno Domini High Definition and was released in Poland in June 2009 and in the rest of Europe and the USA in July 2009. In the second week it reached number 1 on the album charts in Poland, but only lasted a week. The Greek edition of Metal Hammer named it album of the month .

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Riverside, the EP Memories was released in May 2011 in My Head with new material. It contains three songs with a total playing time of 32:35 minutes. In August 2011 the Reality-Dream-Trilogy-Box was released, which contains the complete first three albums, the EP Voices in My Head , the bonus CD Rapid Eye Movement II and a live album. The 6-disc box set contains all the songs and bonus tracks (but not all remixes) from 2003 to 2008. The fifth studio album by the band called Shrine Of New Generation Slaves appeared in January, 2013, the sixth Love, Fear And The Time Machine followed 2015.

On February 21, 2016, the band announced that guitarist and founding member Piotr Grudziński had passed away on the morning of the same day. In a statement on March 8, 2016, Riverside thanked them for their support and cited sudden heart failure as the cause of Grudziński's surprising death. Due to the death, the band announced that they would no longer perform live until the end of 2016. However, planned releases in spring and autumn 2016 should take place as originally planned.

On February 25, 2017, Riverside performed for the first time since the death of Piotr Grudziński at the Progresja Music Zone Club, Warsaw , Poland . Maciej Meller ( Quidam ) and Mateusz Owczarek ( Lion Shepherd ) were there as guest musicians .
