Second Life Syndrome is the second studio album by the Polish progressive rock band Riverside . It was released by InsideOut Music in 2005 and is the second part of a trilogy called Reality Dream.

Creation and publication

A successor to the debut album Out of Myself and thus a continuation of its concept was originally planned for the beginning of 2005, but could not be completed in time. Instead, Riverside first released the EP Voices in My Head and played a small tour in Western Europe. During this time they also signed a record deal with InsideOut Music. Second Life Syndrome , some of which had already been played live, was finally recorded from June to August 2005 at Serakos Studio in Warsaw . Jacek Gawłowski mastered the album, Travis Smith designed the artwork .

Second Life Syndrome has more progressive metal bonds than the debut album, but still shows influences from the art rock Pink Floyds and the neo-prog Marillions . On laut.de and Baby Blue Pages , the album will also Fates Warning and Porcupine Tree compared. The atmosphere is mostly melancholy and gloomy.

The high expectations of the press after the debut album were met. Michael Edele from laut.de emphasizes that the title track alone has "riffs and sound magic to offer that others would [play] an entire album with". Thomas Kohlruß from Babyblauen Seiten says: “Riverside actually manage to surpass their very successful debut album in every respect and improve again.” Mike Borrink from Rock Hard considers the album to be an “elegiac art rock masterpiece” and the music magazine eclipsed voted it 21st on its list of 150 most important prog albums.
