Zhang Xiangru

Zhang Xiangru ( Chinese  張 相 如  /  张 相 如 , Pinyin Zhāng Xiāngrú , † 164 BC ), was a high Chinese official and military leader during the Western Han Dynasty . He was the governor of Hejian . In this capacity, he took part in the campaign against Chen Xi in 196 and was made Count of Dongyang (東陽 侯) as a reward. Already since the year 201 BC He was an advisor in the Imperial Palace and was so highly regarded by Emperor Wen that he became a private tutor for the heir to the throne , but later he lost this position. He was one of those who viewed Jia Yi as a danger because of his youth and made him ill before the emperor.

In 166 he was appointed commander in chief and led the defense against an attack by the Xiongnu , who had advanced as far as the vicinity of the capital Chang'an . Zhang died two years later.
