Zhang the elder
Zhang the Elderly ( Chinese 張皇后 , Pinyin Zhang Huánghòu , maiden name unknown, † 237 ), formally Empress Jing'ai ( Chinese 敬哀皇后 , Pinyin Jìng'āi Huánghòu , respectful and lamentable Empress ), was an empress of Shu Han to time of the three kingdoms . She was the first wife of the dynasty's second emperor, Liu Shan .
Zhang's father was General Zhang Fei and her mother was Ms. Xiahou, daughter of Xiahou Yuan . She married Liu Shan in 221 at the request of Liu Bei . When Liu Shan became Crown Prince, she received the title of Crown Princess. In the same year she lost her father when he was murdered by his subordinates. When Liu Bei died in 223, Liu Shan became emperor and made her empress.
Empress Zhang had no children. She died in 237.
