Zhivago Duncan

Zhivago Duncan (* 1980 in Terre Haute , United States ) is an American artist.

Life

Duncan was born in 1980 in Terre Haute, the son of a Syrian and a Danish woman. Since Duncan's father worked in the tourism industry, Duncan grew up in Saudi Arabia , London , Malta , Los Angeles , the United States and France, among others . After graduating from school, he worked as a snowboard instructor and car mechanic.

Duncan graduated from the BFA Chelsea College of Art and Design in London in 2007 . He lives and works in Berlin. His most important exhibition so far in 2011 was a participation in the group exhibition Gesamtkunstwerk: New Art in Germany at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Duncan works both as a painter and as a sculptor and installation artist. In his large-format and brightly colored canvas paintings, which are inspired by American pop art and, according to his own statements, by TV trash formats , he combines letters and lettering with comic characters, graffiti and other elements of street art.

In his installation “Pretentious crap” he unfolds an apocalyptic vision - in miniature format - of a deserted world destroyed after a catastrophe, to be viewed in a glass case, like a biological preparation in the natural history museum.
