Zhongnan Shan

The Zhongnan Shan ( Chinese  終 南山  /  终 南山 , Pinyin Zhongnan Shan , English Zhongnan Mountain / Mt. Zhongnan ) - also called Zhongnan Mountains , Zhongnanshan , Zhongnan Mountains and known by several Chinese names (including Nan Shan南山) - is a Mountain range located approx. 40 km south of the city of Xi'an in the Chinese province of Shaanxi , a forerunner of the Qinling Mountains . Its main mountains include Cuihua Shan 翠华山, Nanwutai 南 五台, Guifeng Shan 圭峰山 and Louguan Tai 楼观台.

The mountains are an important site of religious Daoism . Wang Chongyang , the founder of the Quanzhen School of Daoism, practiced here. At the location of the Daoist temple Louguan Tai ( Chinese  楼观台 , English The Lookout Tower Platform / Louguan Terrace / Lookout Tower Monastery ) in Zhouzhi , according to legend, Laozi was asked by Yin Xi to share his knowledge.

The Zhongnanshan Tunnel , the longest road tunnel in Asia and the second longest in the world, runs under the Zhongnan Shan .
