Drawing die
A die or Ziehhol is a tool of the forming technology , used in a wire drawing or other production, is produced at the long material.
The drawing die is an insert with an opening through which material, mostly metal, is pulled and this takes on the shape of the opening of the drawing die (forming). As a rule, the material becomes longer and thinner at the same time.
The most common drawn products are wires and tubes . Wire drawing dies used to be made from hardened steel, nowadays from a stainless steel setting with an incorporated part made of diamond (natural diamond or synthetic monocrystalline (SCD) or polycrystalline (PCD / PCD) diamond) or hard metal .
Modern drawing dies are precision tools, some with hole sizes below 0.01 mm, e.g. B. for fine wire production for the medical industry.
The geometry of the drawing die depends on the material to be drawn : the degree of springback of the drawing material determines how much the opening has to be narrower than the calculated, desired finished dimension: If the drawn material springs open, it will be drawn in again after drawing little bigger.
