Gypsy ways

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The piece of music "Gypsy Ways" by the Spanish composer Pablo de Sarasate was published in 1878. It's in C minor and has four movements. The original is a piece for symphony orchestra and solo violin, although there are various arrangements for other ensembles, including v. a. Guitar and solo violin as well as piano and solo violin.

composition

The entire piece (the solo part is meant here) is considered particularly violin-like. It has a large ambitus that extends from g to g4 and thus reproduces almost the entire spectrum of tones possible on the violin with normal tuning . There are often large jumps (e.g. bars 4, 11, 12) or runs (e.g. bars 4, 11, 15) between the individual pitches. The dynamic varies between ff and ppp and is precisely notated as is typical of the epoch (including transition lines). The tempos differ from movement to movement and range between “Lento” and “Allegro molto vivace”. The piece is technically demanding, as many different elements are required: The piece features staccato , spiccato and pizzicato (both right and left hand), glissandi and flageolet tones . The Gypsy Airs are many ornaments bestück: Frequently are advantages and lookups, trill , trill and double strokes. A lot of information on articulation is available both in character form ( accents , fermatas, dots, ...) and as words (espressivo, appasionato, misurato, ...). Many different cadences give the soloist a lot of freedom to design and interpret the piece himself: there are often fast movements, modulations and fermatas. A damper is used in “Un poco più lento” .
