The Zillertal is a local recreation area on the city limits between Wetter (Ruhr) and Herdecke on the Harkortsee in the Ardey Mountains .

It was an important mining area in Friedrich Harkort's industrial era ; among other things, the Eulalia tunnel is located there . The entrance to the gallery was restored by the local mining working group in 2017. In July 2019, a selected group of people were able to explore the tunnel.

In the Zillertal there is a restaurant, a golf club and the Avalonia nature reserve with a forest of the same name. There are Ruhr sandstone rocks that have been used for bouldering for several years by the Boulder Club Ruhrtal - supported by the German Alpine Club . A memorial was erected here for boulderer Arthur Weichsel, who died very young in 2018.
