behavior
This bird spends most of its time high up in the branches of a tree and only flies up to catch insects in the foliage with sudden movement. Occasionally he rushes down to the ground to grab small animals, including mice and lizards. Sometimes he also follows colonies of wandering ants that scare away smaller animals on their forays. Larger prey animals are carried back to the hide and beaten against a branch to kill. He supplements the animal food with fruits, which he plucks from the trees in flight. Cinnamon breast motmots can be found alone or in pairs.
Reproduction
The cinnamon breast motmot breeds in a bare brood chamber at the end of a self-dug tube on embankments or between tree roots. It also rests in it outside of the breeding season.
