Involved Atelier Communities , project rooms, galleries and art houses (such as Kestner Gesellschaft and the Kunstverein Hannover ), presenting with their artwork and work spaces as well as guided tours, presentation of the creation process of art and other accompanying events.

Zinnober developed from the autumn season kick-off established by galleries with galleries, art houses and artist groups. Just like the Zinnober Festival of the Hamburg Secession based on the artist festival around Kurt Schwitters in the 1920s, Zinnober celebrates art in Hanover.

The series of events is organized by the City of Hanover Cultural Office. It was called the “Zinnober Kunstvolkslauf” until the 16th event in 2013, from 2017 onwards the addition “Kunstvolkslauf” was no longer officially marketed. A working group of artists and gallery owners is available to advise the cultural office.

With 69 exhibitors, more than ever before, the 22nd edition of the event will take place in 2019.

The previous year's event had a record participation, both in terms of the number of exhibitors (57) and in terms of the number of visits (15,800).
