Tin soldiers to re-enact the Battle of Kunersdorf in 1757

Tin soldiers are replicas of soldiers in white metal , usually in the form of a tin - lead - alloy .

Such playing figures used to be produced in large quantities, especially in Nuremberg and Fürth . Soldiers of all branches of service and various armies served as models. Carl Alexander Heideloff , his brother Manfred, Wilhelm Camphausen and other artists provided designs for this. At the beginning they were mostly kept flat (similar to the semi- relief ), but were later sculpted and painted according to the models.

Similar figures were already known to the tin soldiers in the time of the Roman Empire , but the period after the Seven Years' War was the most important boom for the tin figure industry.
