Cistercian Abbey of Gémenos
The Cistercian Abbey of Gémenos (also: Saint-Pons de Gémenos ) was a French monastery of the Cistercian women in Gémenos , Bouches-du-Rhône department , from 1205 to 1407 .
history
The Bishop of Marseille founded the Cistercian monastery of Saint-Pons (after Pontius von Cimiez ) in Gémenos in 1205, which rose to the abbey in 1223 and founded three daughter monasteries: 1221 Almanarre Monastery , 1235 Mollégès Monastery and 1242 Mont-Sion Monastery . In 1407 the monastery was integrated into the daughter of Almanarre and - apparently as too humid - finally abandoned in 1426. The remains, which have been listed since 1926, are now accessible in a park landscape (Parc de Saint-Pons) .
