Cistercian Abbey of Neufchâtel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian Abbey Neufchatel was 1654-1791 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Neufchatel-en-Bray , Seine-Maritime in France .

history

The Benedictine monastery of St. Thomas (also: Saint Saulve , after Salvius von Angoulême), which has existed in Drincourt (later: Novum Castrum , Neufchâtel ) since the 9th century, was settled in 1654 by the Cistercian abbey of Bival with Cistercian women (also: St. Bernard women ) and elevated to an abbey in 1725 . The French Revolution in 1791 led to the dissolution of the monastery, which stood on the site of today's town hall. Because of the intense bombing during World War II, there are no remains, and there is no street name that reminds of the former monastery.
