La Encarnación Cistercian Convent

The Cistercian monastery of La Encarnación has been a monastery of the Cistercian women in Talavera de la Reina , Toledo province in Spain since 1610 .

history

In Talavera de la Reina, approx. 100 kilometers southwest of Madrid , where the Cistercian convent of San Benito already existed (not far from Calle San Benito ), the monastery of La Encarnación (" Incarnation ") of the Saint Bernard sisters was founded in 1610 with the aim of the stricter Oberservanz which (like San Benito) still exists today. It belongs to the Cistercian Congregation of San Bernardo (CCSB) . The monastery buildings by the architect Fray Lorenzo de San Nicolás (1593–1679) on Calle San Bernardo have been a listed building since 1993.
