history

Father Hubert Kostrzański (1913–2002), a monk (and later abbot) of the Polish monastery Szczyrzyc in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship who fled to the United States in 1946 , founded the dependent priory of Mary Mother of the Church in Willow Springs (Illinois), west in 1958 as a Polish mission station Chicago . In 1976 he was followed by Grzegorz Szydlowski (1938–2003), who began building a new church and a new monastery in 2001 (completed in 2004). The current prior is (since 2012) Michał Blicharski. For the numerous residents of Chicago of Polish origin, the monastery is an important meeting place, where, among other things, the memory of Podhale is cultivated.
