The term Zitsch describes various soft drinks in the Lower Rhine and Rhineland , usually with a lemon flavor. Zitsch is an onomatopoeic word that mimics the sound of opening the bottle. The term found its way into everyday language as well as in product names.

Hahn's Zitsch

In Bergisch Gladbach , on Refrather Weg 2, the entrepreneur Walter Hahn (1905–1965) produced the refreshing drink Hahn's Zitsch . It was a sparkling lemonade that was or is called Zitsch on the Lower Rhine and in the central Rhineland . The bottles were labeled “Hahn's Zitsch, lemonade made of natural. Fruit extracts and made of pure sugar. Slightly colored. ”A syrup was made for production, which was mixed with water to make lemonade, then bottled, carbonated and then immediately sealed. After Hahn's death, his wife initially continued the business.
