zlib license

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The zlib / libpng license is one of the Open Source Initiative and the Free Software Foundation recognized (FSF) Permissive open source license . According to the FSF, it is also compatible with the GNU General Public License (GPL).

It implies that the author of the software assumes no liability for any damage resulting from the use of the same. The use of the software is free for all, i.e. also for commercial purposes, under the following three conditions:

  1. You cannot claim that you are the author of the software. If it is used in a product, a mention in the documentation is desirable, but not required.
  2. A changed source code must also be marked as such and may not be named as the original source.
  3. The license notice must not be removed

Like the BSD license, the Zlib license does not contain a copyleft .

As with most free licenses, the license contains a disclaimer that does not distinguish between willful intent and negligence. This does not apply under German law. However, if the software is provided free of charge, § 521 BGB applies , according to which liability is only assumed for intent and gross negligence.
