Ikono.tv began broadcasting in Germany at the beginning of July 2006. Until June 2007, broadcasting was from 10:00 pm to midnight, partly on the frequencies of other broadcasters such as JobTV24 or as part of the program, such as Anixe HD at other broadcast times. In May 2007, the station had a technical reach of around 12 million households. This corresponds to around 32 million people.

At the end of 2010 ikono.tv launched the HDTV channel ikonomenasa on an Arabsat satellite (BADR-5, 11785 MHz), which broadcasts a specially curated program for the region around the Mediterranean. Arabsat has a reach of 16.5 million households from the Arabian Peninsula across North Africa to the south of Spain and Portugal. For this purpose, the signal will be captured in 2010 by providers in Asia , Europe and Russia and fed into various cable television channels.

In the period from December 1, 2011 to November 30, 2015, the station could be received via the IPTV platform Telekom Entertain .

The station is a relatively young company, which was founded on June 6, 2005 by Elizabeth Markevitch. The company has set itself the goal of providing as much art as possible free of charge.
