Zoe Readhead
Zoë Neill Readhead (born November 2, 1946 in Summerhill ) is a British educator and psychologist.
Life
Zoë Readhead is the daughter of Alexander Sutherland Neill and his wife Ena . She grew up in the anti-authoritarian Summerhill boarding school founded by her father ; in her father's bestseller books, in which he describes her upbringing in detail, she is portrayed as the “prototype” of a child raised in a radical liberal manner. After finishing school in Summerhill, Zoë Neill studied in Norway and qualified as a psychotherapist. She also graduated from Art College in Ipswich and qualified as a riding instructor with the British Horse Society .
Zoë Readhead is the only child of Ena and AS Neill. From her mother, who had continued the boarding school after AS Neill's death in 1973, she finally took over the management in 1985. She consistently continues the anti-authoritarian pedagogy of her parents and distinguished herself, among other things, by opposing political and legal endeavors To shut down Summerhill successfully defended himself. Like her parents before, she was able to get the English authorities through that lessons in Summerhill are not compulsory for the students, but take place on a voluntary basis.
According to Zoë Readheads, especially in the risk society of the postmodern era, a radical liberal upbringing aimed at the highest level of personal responsibility is the best means of preparing young people for a self-determined life. In terms of argumentation, she is based on the German pedagogue Hartmut von Hentig .
Zoë Readhead's worldwide appearances on various TV talk shows have helped Summerhill to become internationally known. The student body nowadays consists of children and young people from many different nations, especially from Japan.
Zoë Readhead is assisted in running the boarding school by her husband, Tony Readhead. The couple have four grown children (Amy, William, Henry and Neill) who also graduated from this school.
