Zoltán Fodor (physicist)

Zoltán Fodor (born September 8, 1964 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian physicist. He made important contributions to the theory of quarks , to the development of quantum chromodynamics and to the great unification of the standard model of elementary particles.

Life

Fodor received his PhD from the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest . He researched for several years at CERN in Geneva , at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg , KEK in Tsukuba and at the Eötvös-Loránd University. Since 2003 he has been Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

His research had a focus on the axions , the previously undetected elementary particles that are possibly dark matter . The journal Nature published the spectacular research results of the German-Hungarian research group around Zoltán Fodor in November 2016. With the help of lattice QCD calculations, essential insights could contribute to the understanding of the early universe and above all to the so-called dark matter.
