The La Garenne Zoo is a zoological garden in Le Vaud , Canton of Vaud , Switzerland .
The zoo shows mostly European animals. In 1978 the international project to reintroduce bearded vultures in the Alps was started. La Garenne was involved in this from the start. In addition to the very successfully breeding bearded vultures, black vultures , griffon and Egyptian vultures as well as various other birds of prey and owls live in the zoo . Some predators such as wild cats , foxes and wolves are also kept. Numerous reptiles , amphibians , fish , rodents and insects can be seen in the heated pavilion de la nature and in the exhibition room under the restaurant . In addition, La Garenne also operates a care station for injured adult birds or abandoned young birds. In 2016 the zoo moved to a completely newly built area, which provides larger and more natural facilities for the animals.
The zoo has been a member of the Swiss zoo organization Zooschweiz since 2017 and of the European zoo association EAZA since 2019 .
